The IWA Specialist Group on Benchmarking and Performance Assessment (SG BPA) is a global platform that brings together practitioners, researchers, regulators, policy makers, consultants and others interested in performance indicators and benchmarking to improve water services (drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, urban water management). Every two years, the SG BPA organises a PI-conference for global knowledge exchange, discussing relevant developments in the field of performance measuring and benchmarking and exchanging practical experiences with the benchmarking instrument.
The SG BPA, together with local host LNEC, is currently preparing for the next edition (PI2027) in Lisbon, with emphasis on today’s challenges for the sector. Customers and stakeholders today expect effective, efficient, affordable, sustainable, transparent and resilient water services. The PI2027 Scientific Committee calls for papers in the field of benchmarking and performance assessment of water services, not just in traditional areas like water quality or distribution losses, but in particular in areas where utilities are facing new challenges.
Conference topics include but are not limited to:
- Performance assessment under new EU regulatory frameworks (CSRD, DWD, EWRS, UWWTD)
- Methodologies and tools for performance assessment and benchmarking
- Performance assessment for regulation and policy
- Performance assessment for strategic asset management
- Performance assessment for a resilient and climate-adaptive water sector
- Performance assessment and the water–energy nexus
- Performance assessment in digital transformation, smart systems and data governance
- Innovation and research impact assessment in the water sector
- Successful experiences with performance assessment and improvement in the water sector
- Social dimensions of performance assessment (equity, affordability, inclusiveness)
